A city, lucknow has been able to preserve its charm of the old days, making a trip to this city memorable during the visit to India. There are many tourist sites of attraction that the tourists should visit during their trip to the city. Many buildings and monuments that were constructed during the old days are existing for the tourists to see and admire. During many of the lucknow tours, these places can be visited.

Bara Imambara:

Fourth Nawab of Awadh, constructed the Bara Imambara in 1784, whose name was Asaf-ud-Daula, for the purpose of providing relief when a major catastrophe of famine occurred in 1784.

British Residency Lucknow:

This building of British Residency Lucknow, presently is  a famous landmark in history for many tourists. Although presently in ruins, the place has been announced as a monument of heritage and is protected by the Archeological Survey of India.

Chattar Manzil :

Chattar Manzil was constructed by the Lucknow Nawabs and is a great structure which is well known among the Lucknow attractions for the tourists. The variety of architecture styles that have gone into this building is the best thing about Chattar Manzil.


Sultan Ahmed Shah built the Jama Masjid in Lucknow in 1423 with the use of sandstone of yellow color in the entirety, which is laced with beautiful architecture and design.

Rumi Darwaza:

In india, in terms of architectural style, the Rumi Darwaza is quite an imposing structure in the region of Lucknow and was built by Nawab Asaf-ud-daula in 1784. This building is an example of Awadh style of architecture.

Clock Tower:

Between the location of Bara Imambara and the Chhota Imambara, there is located the Clock Tower of Lucknow, which was built by Nawab Nasir-ud-din Haider in 1880. With a height of about 221 feet, the Clock Tower in Lucknow goes up as the highest Clock Tower in the country. The clock in this tower is also one of the biggest in the country to be fitted which took up an expenditure of about Rs. 1.75 lakhs during those days of construction.

Moti Mahal:

Among one of the best and beautiful monuments of the country, the Moti Mahal is found in Lucknow, which was built by Saadat Ali Khan who was the Nawab of Lucknow. This mahal is otherwise known as the Palace of Pearls. Situated along the river gomti, the view of Lucknow can be had from the mahal itself. The place was used by the nawabs to look at the birds and enjoy their leisure. Inside the entire structure, thre are three different buildings.

The others are Mubarak Manzil and Shah Manzil, which were constructed on a later time by Nawab Ghazi-ud-din haider. Animal fights and combats were seen from these buildings. The moti mahal has been preserved since those days and is looked after by the authorities making it one of the most sought after lucknow attractions.

Lakshmana Tila:

It is believed that the town was supposed to originally come up in the Lakshmana Tila. About the tila, the story is related to Ramayana era, when lakshmana, the brother of Lord Rama put down the stone for a large city, which was named as Lakshmanpur in those days. This area of lucknow is considered to be the oldest area of settlement in the city.

Hussainabad Imambara:

In lucknow, the Hussainabad Imambara is among the famous attractions for the tourists. In 1837, this monument was constructed by Mohammed Ali Shah, for serving as the tomb for Mohammed Ali Shah  and his mother. Plenty of Arabic verses have been carved with beauty in the walls of this structure, by craftsmen, who were very efficient. The building is consisting of a great white dome decorated along with plenty of pillars and small minarets. The inside of the monuments are beautiful structure, as they have been beautifully arranged with many golden frames, chandeliers, mirrors and other minute structures, along with the king’s throne. The monument has two small Taj Mahal replicas on both sides. On the occasion of Moharrum, this structure is beautifully decorated and there are a large number of small bulbs that are used to decorate this place which gives the structure a beautiful royal look.
